The Torbay Suite (2020)
In 2019 Robert composed The Torbay Suite which is set to be released within the next few weeks. It was recorded in The Perth Concert Hall by Ronan Charles and Sam Jones. Joe Fowler: wooden flute, Phil Waldron:bouzouki, Josie Fountain: cello and Rob on fiddle and whistle.
Torbay Day goes from Dawn to dusk at the Torbay Inlet. Torbay night is a reflection of the day and was inspired by many nights around a campfire. "I didn’t really write the Torbay suite. It was already there. It was a very soft day and I got the first four notes and the rest followed."
Out West (2012)
In 2012 Mick Doherty and Robert Zielsinki released their album Out West to preserve the musical legacy of Mick's family, in particular, previously unheard versions of tunes handed down by Mick's father Hughie and grandfather Mickey Mor. This album was produced by The National Library of Australia and launched at Fairbridge Festival when Mick was 88 years old.
The Day Dawn (2018)
The Day Dawn is Robert's debut album and is the culmination of over twenty years work, with the first recordings made in Co Kerry when Robert was twenty-three (1998), and the latest in 2018 in Albany, Western Australia. On the countless occasions Robert attempted to record this album, he felt sessions left him wanting and frustrated, as if something was not quite right. His brother was the first to suggest Robert gather up all previous takes from studios, friends, family members and technicians he'd worked with. Soon enough, on reflection and re-gathering, he realised his brother was right.
He searched specifically for takes where he remembered something happened during the performance, often when his accompanist and him were just playing for the sake of it, forgetting they were being recorded or in a studio. Robert says he personally has, until now, found this state to be elusive, knowing this realisation is what led him on holding off on the release of an album. Robert believes albums should be a composition in themselves. When I realised the album was done it dawned on me that the many recording sessions had not been in vain an has made it what it is.
The Day Dawn was recorded on six different fiddles, two of which Robert made in six different studios between Australia and Ireland with five different accompanists.
